Lights, Camera, History! No. 1 – “The American Revolution”

Our partnership with The Lindsay Theater, “Lights, Camera, History!” returns for its second year as we explore the history of the American Revolution through film .

For the first film of the season, join SVHS at The Lindsay Theater, in partnership with WQED, for a special, 1-hour screener presentation of the new documentary that has captivated the nation — a special Sewickley screening of “The American Revolution” the film by Ken Burns, Sarah Botstein, and David Schmidt.

After the presentation, SVHS will welcome special guest Dr. Holly Mayer for “Reflections on the American Revolution via the Ken Burns Documentary,” via Zoom.

Dr. Holly Mayer, Professor Emerita of History at Duquesne University and consultant for the film will engage with attendees in an exclusive presentation and Q&A.

About Our Speaker:

Dr. Mayer, Professor Emerita of History at Duquesne University, was the 2021- 2022 Charles Boal Ewing Chair in Military History at the United States Military Academy, West Point, and the Harold K. Johnson Chair at the U.S. Army War College in 2016-2017.

She was also Duquesne’s Interim Associate Provost for Academic Affairs in2017-2019, and earlier served in the U.S. Army Reserve. Her primary scholarly interestsinclude social, political, and military issues in 18th-century North America. Mayer has published Congress’s Own: A Canadian Regiment, the Continental Army, andAmerican Union (2021), Belonging to the Army: Camp Followers and Community duringthe American Revolution (1996), and, as editor, Women Waging War in the AmericanRevolution (2022). Mayer also wrote numerous essays and co-edited For the Record: A Documentary History of America (multiple eds.).
